Sharon Says Israel at War; Suicide Bomber Strikes

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Sunday Israel was at war and vowed to crush Palestinian "terrorism" after a suicide bomber killed 15 people and Yasser Arafat's guards battled troops besieging his headquarters.

The Palestinian suicide bomber blew himself up in a restaurant in the Israeli port city of Haifa, also wounding more than 40 people in a blast that tore off the roof and spewed debris over a car park.

Two hours later, a second suicide attack wounded six people at a Jewish settlement in the West Bank and Israeli troops fought Arafat's guards and tightened their ring around his headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Witnesses said tanks later rumbled into the West Bank city of Qalqilya, and fears of all-out war were growing after 18 months of tit-for-tat violence since the Palestinians rose up against Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

"Citizens of Israel: the state of Israel is at war, a war against terror," Sharon said in a brief televised address.

"We must fight this terrorism, in an uncompromising war to uproot these savages, to dismantle their infrastructure, because there is no compromise with terrorists."

He said Arafat "activated, coordinated and directed" the campaign against Israel and that he was "the enemy of the free world." A cease-fire would be possible once the campaign against the Palestinians had been completed, he said.

"The state of Israel is at a decisive point in its history. The situation is not easy, but...we will prevail."

The Palestinians swiftly rejected Sharon's comments.

"This is Sharon's style, nothing new and nothing surprising. But by claiming he will extend his hand for peace after he completes his mission, Sharon is only making a silly joke," said Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo.

"The world knows what hand Sharon has extended. It is the hand that carries the tools of killing and it is the hand soaked with the blood of the people in the region, including that of the Palestinian people."

In an interview for broadcast on CBS TV's "60 Minutes," Sharon said he would take part if the United States called a Middle East peace meeting with Arab leaders.

3.-...Well, my prayer request to the Lord is; should I remove 10 large trees (60+ feet tall) from behind my house. One tree dropped a very large branch onto a neighbor's house a few months back. And now I noticed, that three trees are hanging over my house. With all of the wind we have been having I am getting worried for my house. The price for removing the trees is $8,000.00, and I need the Lord to tell me if I should borrow the money and have them removed. Oh and also pray for our new baby. God bless you all.

California Pupils Indoctrinated in Islam 
BYRON, Calif. — It is sudden-ly OK to promote religious values in public school. Government schools have initiated a program that encourages 7th grade students to learn about the tenets of Islam; they are even encouraged to adopt Muslim names, wear robes and stage their own jihad in a dice game (holy war).  Parents in this community are outraged that schools would be forc-ing their children to learn such things. However, ASSIST News Service reported that complaints to their taxpayer-supported principal were brushed off.  “The public schools in California so stealthily slipped this course into the 7th grade curriculum that even another 7th grade teacher, Elizabeth Christina Lemings, was totally in the dark that this was being taught until her son, Joseph, who is a 7th grader in the same school where she teaches, brought home the handouts,” ANS reported.  “We could never teach Christianity like this,” Mrs. Lemings told ANS. “We can’t even mention the name of Jesus in the public schools, but over there ...,“ she said, pointing to the building next to hers, “they teach Islam as the true religion, and students are taught about Islam and how to pray to Allah.”  California’s government schools are utilizing a textbook used for the Islamic course titled, “Across The Centuries,” published by Houghton--Mifflin. Islam is presented in a pos-itive manner, whereas everything Christian is depicted negatively, reported ANS.  In contrast, “there is not one negative to be found about Islam in this one-sided account, such as the wars, massacres, cruelties against Christians and other non-Muslims that Islam has consistently perpetrated over the centuries. More Than 250 Killed in Peru Fire

LIMA, Peru (AP) - Jose Fernandez Vega was sure he would die after black
smoke clouded his view of a street jammed with unlicensed vendors,
shoppers and cars full of screaming people trapped in a fire that
killed more than 250. 

``People were burning standing up, they were burning on top of one
another,'' Vega said Sunday, sitting in a wheelchair at a burn unit,
his arms wrapped in bandage. He said he scrambled over three or four
burning taxis to escape Peru's most devastating fire on record. ``I
have never seen this type of tragedy.'' 

Witnesses said someone set off a large firecracker in the street
Saturday night, apparently to test it, and that it set off other
fireworks nearby. Officials estimate temperatures exceeded 1,100
degrees. 

At least 122 people, including small children, were found dead in the
streets after the towering blaze raced through a four-block area
Saturday night, accompanied by the machinegun-like explosions of
fireworks from stands that clogged the downtown historic center.
Firefighters going through the fire-gutted buildings were finding more
bodies. 

While the investigation continued, officials agreed that inadequate
zoning, street congestion and rampant safety violations contributed to
the tragedy. 

Mayor Alberto Andrade said the city tried to stop the unauthorized sale
of fireworks from street vendors who had returned to the crammed
downtown shopping area before Christmas following a five-year absence.
Municipal authorities had tried to dislodge the merchants several days
ago. 

``Unfortunately, the merchants marched and attacked our municipal
police to the point that they injured two, putting one in a coma,''
Andrade said. The violence was reminiscent of street battles between
unlicensed vendors and police who forced them out in late 1996. 

Although Lima's center was designated a U.N. World Heritage site a
decade ago, the fire-scarred section would be hard to describe as a
tourist destination. 

It is a hodgepodge of ugly, modern three- to six-story structures and
decaying colonial-era buildings divided into apartments and shops. 

Fires linked to fireworks or crowded markets in parts of Lima's
downtown are not uncommon. 

Peru's leading newspaper El Comercio listed six such fires during the
past decade. One fireworks-induced blaze, on Dec. 5, 1991, killed 12
people. 

Part of the problem, said Paul Maquet, city planner at Lima's Institute
of Urban Development, is a lack of zoning enforcement in the downtown,
with families often living perilously close to apartments converted
into fireworks warehouses. 

``This is an old topic for debate in Lima,'' Maquet said, adding that
an ``Urban Rebirth'' program has been in effect, with regulations in
place to rebuild and rezone, since 1998. ``Unfortunately there isn't
the will to comply with the law,'' he said. 

Adherence to safety standards are often sacrificed to cut construction
costs, he said. When inspectors do call for improvements, they are
often begun, but rarely finished. 

As recovery efforts continued Sunday, Civil Defense Col. Ruben Ibanez
told The Associated Press that dozens of anguished family members,
carrying photographs and dental records, formed long lines to begin
identifying victims, many charred beyond recognition. 

Ibanez said late Sunday that 256 bodies had been recovered and that
recovery efforts would continue through the night. He said that 30
percent of the commercial galleries inside the tenements still needed
to be searched. At least 144 people were hospitalized. 

Pope John Paul II, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and the
governments of Italy and Spain sent Peru their condolences. 

Walter Villamil, 46, sweeping the black sludge left over from the fire
in front of his house Sunday, pulled what he - and many others at the
scene - said was the cause of the fire. 

``This is a 'chocolate,''' he said, holding up a round, quarter-sized
firecracker crudely wrapped in straw paper. Between his thumb and
forefinger it looked like a candy with a fuse sticking out. 

``Somebody wanted to see if it worked before he bought one.'' 

President Alejandro Toledo declared Sunday and Monday national days of
mourning and announced an immediate ban on the production, importation
or sale of fireworks, which are popular in Peru during Christmas and
New Year celebrations. 

Fireworks vendors, who normally crowd streets throughout the capital
during the season, had mostly disappeared from Lima's streets by late
Sunday. 

``I've put away everything but the sparklers,'' said Aydee Condori, 29,
who stood by her cart stocked with New Year's party favors, socks and
cheap hair bands in a residential district a few miles from the
downtown. 

``I'm not selling little firecrackers either,'' she said. ``I'm afraid
to sell them now, after what happened.''

Ray, another possible confirmation about "there is going to be a fire in a 
certain large city that will be a sign to you My son", could possibly be the 
bush fire storms that have been surrounding my city, Sydney, Australia since 
Christmas Day. The Fire is surrounding our city from the North, West and 
South. Sydney is located on the East coast of Australia with the Pacific 
Ocean to our immediate East. However, there have not been any loss of life 
as yet, only over 160 homes. The Fires are within 10kms of the City.

Is this a confirmation of the anthrax epedemic?
Anthrax is an acute bacterial infection of the skin, lungs or
gastroinstinal tract. Infection occurs mostly commonly via the skin.
It is intially characterized by a small solid elevation of the skin,
which progresses to a fluid-filled blister with swelling at the site
of infection. The scab that typically forms over the lesion can be
black as coal, hence the name anthrax - Greek for coal.

What caught my attention the other day on the (CNN) TV was the prerecorded speech Osama Bin Laden gave after the USA tarting bombing Afghanistan last sunday. He mentioned in his speech that it was when the USA started shooting missles? bombs into Iraq was when he decided to wage the Jihad on the USA. Also this quote from another interview Osama gave in 1996? 1998?

Good evening, may God Bless you and your family. I just wanted to let you 
know that this evening, after church, I went to my prayer partner's house 
today to take our communion and pray. We were researching the word OWL in 
the dictionary and encyclopedia in light of your September 12, 2001 
prophecy. Anyway, as were trying to find out the meaning of "Beware of the 
Owl", I thought outloud and told Michelle, "I think it will be interesting 
to see if Ray had a vision/prophecy on September 11th of last year".

We read the prophecy of September 11, 2000, and I was totally shocked that 
you were given this word at 8:45 AM!!! and on September 11, 2000!! The 
thing that shook me was the part of the prophecy that said, " Buildings will 
fall and blood will flow all over the world. The highest to the lowest will 
feel the vengeance of God."

It was when we read that building will fall and blood will flow all over the 
world. The twin towers were a global symbol of the world, and for those 
buildings to fall seems surreal.

Anyhow, I was led tonight to see what you had recorded on your website 1 
year ago from September 11, 2001. You had the vision/prophecy at 8:45 and 
the towers were struck at approximately 8:45! WoW, I still can't believe 
this.

I began working early this morning as I have for weeks now. While sitting in 
front of my computer, I began to feel like I was driving one of those super 
fast bullet trains that are in Europe. This feeling has been with me for 
some time now, as I move through my day to day Christian walk. It has felt 
like I would be inside the train engine room watching the landscape rapidly 
move by the train cabin window.

But then, this morning, without warning my prayer language began. Slowly at 
first, but soon, it reached a normal pace. My spirit seemed to be getting 
recharged, but at the same time my physical body felt like it was falling 
apart. During this unexpected prayer language occurrence, I began to 
understand some of the words, then the sentences, so I wrote down what was 
said the best I could, as my tongue spoke this strange sounding language. 
After this 30-minute occurrence, my physical body felt so wasted, I could 
hardly move myself into the bedroom to lay down. I guess my body totally 
shut down, for I woke-up 2 hours later completely exhausted, and I missed my 
Monday night Bible study too. This tiredness lasted until the next morning.

Prophecy:

My son, I want you to clean up the web sites, and give them a professional 
look. For President Clinton and other important people of your world will be 
going there to see what your Father Jehovah is saying. They are going to do 
this because of their sins, and they are going to know that I am the God of 
all! I will show the world the vengeance of God - for all is Mine. The world 
has nursed off My Breast long enough. For that time is here, the Church has 
to grow up. It is I. It is I. It is I - the Breaker, the Maker, the Breaker 
of the universe.

Satan has been hitting your finances, but it will stop. Enough is enough, 
and I am tired of it. There will come a time when people will be frightened 
of you because of My Word. For My Power will fall on the parts of the world 
that you have Anointed. For the foundation is almost laid. Mark My Words! 
For I am not playing a game. Buildings will fall and blood will flow all 
over the world. The highest to the lowest will feel the vengeance of God. So 
be it! So be it! So be it! My Word will never be broken! EVER!

Hi all

Praise the LORD for HIS goodness and mercy. 4 weeks ago it was snowing on
the Drakensberg Mountains, from thereon we experienced a heat wave and on
Wednesday afternoon at 17:15 it started raining. I was praising the LORD
(and of course my plants as well). I just stood outside and saw this
beautiful rainbow at 18:30 - I immediately thought of it as the door to
heaven - it sounds crazy, but I am crazy about our GOD - I waited till it
disappeared at 18:45. It is much cooler now and the wind is so soothing and
reminds me of the HOLY SPIRIT dancing all over the world.

Attached are 2 pictures - 1 of Clinton office and 1 of Bush office - so
#254 refers to the Bush office (definite confirmation of place, papers still
to be signed with the golden pen - because description in # says that
curtains are gray-blue in colour - colour of curtains in Clinton office
different.

Vision:

I am having a vision of someone signing a paper and they're using a golden pen. I don't know what they're signing, but I think it's political. I believe it has to do with power.

I see people standing around this desk watching him sign. I am having a vision of a star and a second vision of a star with a circle. Two stars, one is overlaid, over the other. I am seeing things, but I am not receiving them. Something is blocking My comprehension of what they are. It's hard to explain.

Vision:

There is a big window behind this desk. It has squares
 

with curtains. The curtains are gray blue in color and are behind the man that's writing with the golden pen. I don't really know, but I believe its the White House in Washington, DC. I am seeing something unusual and hard to explain. I see a circle with the U.S Eagle with the stars around the circle. Then it changes into a Satanic pentagram.

I am seeing a large room and in front of this desk there is a rug with a round image of the American Eagle emblem on it.

There are three couches and I have the impression that it was the room that President Kennedy used, for I just had an image of him sitting on one of the couches. The walls are white and there are double doors leading in to the room. There are other large windows to the left of the fire place as you're facing it with two glass doors leading to the outside grounds. I just don't know if it's the White House, but I believe it is. I can see and hear the people talking. It must be a government meeting of some sort. These people have government written all over them. I can't understand what they are saying, but their behavior leads me to believe that they are witnessing the signing of something important. I keep seeing this star. This five pointed star.

Bin Laden in believed to be the mastermind behind the Cole attack and the embassy's in Africa attacked in 98. The article is very interesting/recommended reading.

The Lord showed me a snake with someone trying to cut off it's head with a dull knife. It didn't effect the snake at all. Then I saw someone trying to brand it with a hot branding iron from the neck back. They branded the snake so much that when they were finished the snake looked like a flat pancake the whole length of the snake. Then the snake pulls itself together or blows itself up and wiggles away.

Fire in central China kills hundreds

Scores trapped in fourth-floor dance hall suffocate

BEIJING, Dec. 26 — Fire swept through a shopping center in central China and killed at least 309 people, most of them Christmas revelers trapped in a crowded disco on the building’s fourth floor, officials said Tuesday.

THE FIRE in the city of Luoyang in Henan province started Monday night in the building’s basement, where renovations were under way. It quickly engulfed the entire structure, an official in the city government’s information office said.
    Most of the victims suffocated, said the official, who only gave his surname, Li. He said the casualties included disco patrons and construction workers involved in the renovations.
    In addition to the 309 dead, seven were injured and taken to hospitals, the government’s Xinhua News Agency said.
    Some 750 police and firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the blaze within three hours, the Luoyang Evening News said.
    The stricken shopping center is in the cultural heart of Luoyang, an ancient city on the Yellow River that was China’s capital off and on until a thousand years ago.
    At least 200 people were in the fourth-floor disco, and construction workers were on the second and third floors when the fire started, Xinhua and the provincial television station reported.
    The disco was crowded with people attending a Christmas dance party, local media and officials said. Although not a holiday in officially atheistic China, Christmas has become a fashionable occasion for parties among younger urban Chinese.
    Henan provincial television said the construction work may have been to blame for the fire, but Li said only that its cause was under investigation. Local news accounts said construction materials may have blocked escape routes, contributing to the disaster.

LAX SAFETY REGULATIONS
    Two decades of rapid economic growth has brought China spotty safety regulations and lax enforcement, and fires and building collapses are common. Henan, China’s most populous province, came under criticism in March after 74 people died in a fire in a cinema in Jiaozuo city.
    Monday’s fire may be China’s worst in six years. On Dec. 8, 1994, a fire killed 385 people — most of them children — at a theater in the far western region of Xinjiang. Only one exit door was unlocked when the fire occurred.
    In a sign of official concern, Beijing sent a vice minister, Shi Wanpeng, to Luoyang on Tuesday to assess the disaster and the local government’s response.
    Footage on Henan television showed flames shooting out of smashed windows on the building’s first floor. Firefighters worked in oxygen masks and pump wagons sprayed the building’s glass front, which remained largely intact.
    One woman was shown hanging out of a window waiting to be rescued, and firefighters plucked some people, children among them, from the upper floors using a platform mounted on a crane.
    Shortly after the fire broke out around 9:30 p.m., the dance hall erupted in chaos, the Henan Daily, the provincial government’s newspaper, reported.
    Firefighters tried to enter the disco but found the smoke so thick they retreated, unable to determine how many people were inside, the newspaper said.

LEAP TO SAFETY
    One partygoer, her face black with soot and her hands bloody, said she and five or six others jumped to safety from a balcony, but she didn’t know if her husband escaped, the newspaper reported.
    An employee at a movie theater across the street from the shopping center said smoke poured from the building’s top and back. Firefighters and police searched the building Tuesday, keeping the area cordoned off, said the woman, who asked not to be identified.

During prayer the Lord showed a cross section of a volcano with its moving lava. I could see this happening at night with all kinds of colors coming from the flames as the firewall moved across the landscape. The colors were what amazed me the most, and seeing it at night. (over)

Mexicans flee as volcano erupts

Popocatepetl showers fiery rock and ash for six miles around

MEXICO CITY, Dec. 19 — The sky above Mexico City lit up in a spectacular show of fire as the Popocatepetl volcano, which awoke from a 70-year slumber in 1994, spewed red-hot rocks into the air. The eruptions, over the course of Monday night and Tuesday, forced the evacuation of thousands of villagers, who had previously ignored government urging to leave when the volcano began its ominous rumbling on Friday.

A RED PLUME continued to snake up from the mountain's peak Tuesday after a series of internal explosions triggered the largest eruption for Popocatepetl since A.D. 800, when lava poured from its crater, filling nearby valleys, experts said.

Newly elected President Vicente Fox visited the area on Tuesday as authorities warned that the danger wasn't over.

According to an Interior Ministry press conference on Tuesday afternoon, there is still a lot of pressure building up inside the ducts of the volcano, and more emissions are expected. The ministry said the volcano continues to have internal tremors.

The strong activity that started late Monday took local residents by surprise, although officials have been warning the population about a change in the volcano's activity in the past week.

Servando de la Cruz, a vulcanologist at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, said that the long explosions helped release the pressure that had built up under the magma plug that blocked the crater.

But the fear now is that the incandescent rocks could reach a nearby glacier causing it to melt and release a torrent of meltwater and mud on the small communities below.

The volcano is located about 40 miles southeast of Mexico City and, depending on the severity of its activity as well as wind direction, could pose a formidable threat to the capital, which boasts a population of more than 20 million residents.

So far, the hot ash has blown in the direction of Puebla, a city of around 1.8 million people, on the other side of the 17,886-foot peak.

As the wind carried debris and ash from the volcano, Puebla widened its net of evacuees to 56,000 from 38 villages. Initial plans called for 40,000 people to be evacuated from the nearest 22 communities around the mountain. Looking at the roots of a volcano

According to the Interior Ministry, there are 30,000 people in shelters and more evacuated by themselves so the exact number of people who fled the area is unknown. Most of villages in the slopes of the volcano are now empty. The government said it would continue to evacuate surrounding towns if the volcanic activity increases.

AFFECTION FOR THE VOLCANO

But for the local villagers living in shadows of Popocatepetl, the relationship with the volcano is more complex. Generations of families believe that "Don Goyo" or "Goyito," as they call it affectionately, is a part of their lives.

Abandoning him could make him more furious, so they make offerings and honor his presence every day. Television crews reported that local residents asked them to apologize to Don Goyo for filming it.

This relationship dates back to the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortez, who was responsible for several massacres of Indians in the 16th century. According to legend, the volcano erupted as Cortez passed by, scaring away the invaders.

The still predominately Indian population that lives around the Popocatepetl — which means "Smoking Mountain" in their pre-Hispanic dialect — inherited the legend, and many believed the volcano would not do them any harm.

"All of the past years we thought Goyito was playing games with us, we even considered his rumblings and tremors as a way of communication with us," Baltazar Garcia said. "But now, we are a bit scared... we saw a lot of fire last night, as never before. Something must have upset him."

For Garcia, a resident of Santiago Xalizintla, a rural community in the foothills of the volcano, it's time to go. Most of his community refused to evacuate until Monday night and only 17 residents remained Tuesday, leaving their fate in Goya's hands.

Some residents said police sent in to guard their belongings during a 1994 evacuation instead stole them.

Corn farmer Tomas Jimenez was one of them. He sent his family to Cholula, a city at the volcano's base, and remained to keep watch on their house. But he pointed to a battered pickup truck that represented his only escape.

"Here's my transportation," he said. "At the right moment, I'll take off running."

I saw something eating into a wall or flesh. I cannot understand this because it looked like flesh, but it crumbled like a wall. The teeth look like animal's teeth of some sort. I am viewing this from the back left side. (over)

A vision of a ship. I believe it is an aircraft carrier with the front of it blown off. It looked like a large animal with a big mouth had just bitten off the whole front end of the ship. The ship isn't sinking, but the front of it got hit or destroyed just above the water line. (over)

During prayer at Zion Fellowship Church the Lord gave a vision of a large sword. I could see this sword being sharpened on a sharpening stone.

MOSCOW, Oct. 12 — Russia’s successful television producers fall into two categories: the brainy or the zany. The brainy ones court Russia’s large educated class with full-length, commercial-free operas and such programs as "Apocrypha," a biweekly discourse on the lives of classical authors. The zany ones aim elsewhere. As in "Naked Truth," a newscast in all ways normal — except the anchorwoman sometimes strips while she reports the day’s events.

THE REPORTERS ALSO go topless when covering parliament. And the weather forecaster strokes her bare breasts as she predicts light rain.
Producers say they had to choose between these two paths, the highbrow and the out-there, to stay afloat amid the flood of formulaic imported soap operas and cop serials that clogged Russia’s airwaves in the 1990s.
The strategy appears to be working: Many Russian shows are squeezing out foreign rivals in the ratings. While financial and political troubles linger, critics say post-Soviet Russian television is coming into its own.

BRING ON THE SEX
Viewers rejoiced over the end of bland, censored communist programming in the early 1990s. They embraced 10-year-old episodes of the U.S. soap "Santa Barbara" and tawdrier Brazilian and Mexican counterparts.
Russian producers lacked the experience and money to compete. Then after Russia’s 1998 financial crisis, many networks had to drop popular foreign serials because they were too expensive.
"Suddenly the Russian producers had a chance to prove themselves," says Andrei Milekhin, director of the NISPI ratings agency.
Many of the resulting shows are as vulgar and violent as their imported counterparts, but with a twist, like "Naked Truth."
The show’s anchorwoman, Ukrainian actress Svetlana Pesotskaya, reads real items from the week’s news. Then her clothes start to come off. Or her colleagues start stripping around her while she grimly announces the parliament has refused to raise the minimum wage.
Russian politicians cheerily agree to be interviewed by the show’s young, nude female reporters. Gazing awkwardly at the camera or the wall, lawmakers expound on land reform and budget debates. They are spared tough questions, as the "reporters" are mostly professional strippers.

KEEPING AUDIENCE AWAKE
"They just want to talk. Politics itself is a striptease," says Sergei Moskvin, the show’s creator and director of Moscow’s channel M-1. With this and the channel’s other satirical shows, Moskvin says he’s pointing out the absurdity of the news itself.
"We need to wake up the viewers, to do things differently," he says, chain-smoking as he bounces around his downtown office.

FBI Director Louis Freeh admitted that Russia may yet have stored weapons — including nuclear suitcase bombs — at secret locations around the U.S.
    The stunning revelations appeared in yesterday’s editions of the New York Post. The paper quoted Congressman Curt Weldon (R-Pa.) as having had a conversation with Freeh in the past two weeks.
    Weldon said that Freeh "acknowledged the possibility that hidden weapons caches exist in the United States ..”
    Weldon, a leading congressional expert on Russia and chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Research and Development, said, "There is no doubt that the Soviets stored material in this country. The question is what and where.”
    Congressional scrutiny has focused on dozens of nuclear suitcase bombs that have disappeared from Russian’s nuclear arsenal. According to Russian sources, including Russian General Alexander Lebed, Russia produced 132 nuclear suitcase bombs, each carrying 10 kilotons of explosive material. Only 48 remain in Russia’s inventory; the rest have disappeared.
    The FBI has taken a nonchalant approach to locating the secret caches.
    Congressional sources indicate that the FBI scoured the area around Brainerd, Minn. — one area Russian agents were believed to have forward-deployed weapons in the event of a war.
    But Weldon said the Clinton administration is not interested in pressing the Yeltsin government for fear of destabilizing his shaky position vis-à-vis the country’s military leadership.
    Concerns about the secret stockpiles have been fueled in recent years by revelations made by Russian defectors.
    One KGB defector, Vasili Mitrokhin, provided information to British intelligence that secret weapons stockpiles are scattered throughout the U.S., including upstate New York, California, Texas, Montana and Minnesota.
    Mitrokhin has also stated that such stockpiles were also made throughout Europe. Some Russian weapons caches have been located in Belgium and Switzerland.
    Colonel Stanislav Lunev, the highest ranking military spy ever to defect from Russia, has testified that the Soviet military developed elaborate plans for the use of weapons during the outset of a war with the U.S.
    Lunev said Russian military plans include the destruction of military bases, command and control centers, and the assassination of top U.S. leaders, including the president and members of Congress.
    Lunev has also told members of Congress that suitcase nuclear devices may have already been forward-deployed into the U.S.
    While the secret stockpiles appear to be remnants of the Cold War period, Lunev, a NewsMax.com columnist and author of Through the Eyes of the Enemy, has warned U.S. authorities that Soviet military strategy continues under the guise of Russian "democracy.”
    Lunev has stated that Russian military leaders continue to see a nuclear conflict between Russia and the United States as "inevitable.”

(CNN) -- New Zealand residents were still talking Thursday about the exploding meteor that cast an eerie blue light, generated a sonic boom, and showered the Earth with fragments from space. The meteor exploded Wednesday afternoon over a remote part of New Zealand's North Island. Thousands of eye witnesses tracked the meteor, some catching it on videotape.

"It was just a huge explosion, you know what I mean, it was massive," an eyewitness said. "And at the end it was just like a bomb gone off and just underneath the explosion there was this falling object like in a leaf fashion falling down with smoke coming from it."

Officials at a local observatory said the meteor was likely the size of a car. Police say they received hundreds of calls from people who saw the meteor streaking across the sky and then exploding with a bright flash. They also received reports from across the region of objects falling to the ground. There were no reports of injuries.

Seismologist Terry Webb said that instruments around Mount Ruapehu in the middle of the North Island picked up the boom, a rare occurrence. "The seismographs were able to feel it yesterday on part of the volcano monitoring network," he said.

Explanation: A comet as bright as Comet Hale-Bopp is very rare indeed. No comet has emitted or reflected this much light since possibly the Great Comet of 1811. Explanation: Comet Hale-Bopp continues to look impressive. The photograph above captured the comet on April 7th passing nearly in front of M34, a star cluster in the constellation of Perseus. Now receding from both the Sun and the Earth, Comet Hale-Bopp should still remain an impressive sight for weeks to come as it slowly fades.

Here Comet Hale-Bopp was photographed above Val Parola Pass in the Dolomite mountains surrounding Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. Comet Hale-Bopp's blue ion tail was created when fast moving particles from the solar wind struck expelled ions from the comet's nucleus. The white dust tail is composed of larger particles of dust and ice expelled by the nucleus that orbit behind the comet. Observations showed that Comet Hale-Bopp's nucleus spins about once every 12 hours.

Explanation: In July of 1994, pieces of Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9, also known as the "string of pearls" comet, collided with the planet Jupiter. As the comet fragments smashed in to Jupiter, the resulting explosions scattered large quantities of dusty cometary debris into the Jovian atmosphere. The clouds of debris created the multiple dark smudges visible in this picture. Jupiter's rotation causes the successive impact sites to be strung out along the cloud bands while the strong winds cause the appearance of the smudges to change with time. Jupiter's famous red spot is also visible to the left of center.

You're going to get frightened for all the time the climate of the world is going to change. It's going to change, when it's time to get cold, it won't get cold, it will get hot. When it's supposed to get hot, it will get cold.

When it's supposed to rain, it's going to rain in the time you don't expect rain. There are going to be storms. There are going to be storms all over the world. They will be very hard, very hard. You won't be able to hide yourself. For what has to happen has to happen. For I want, I want, I want it for My Son. I told My Son that all the Saints that are clean are His, are His.

And the day passed, many years passed long ago when I placed the water in the ocean in the world. Now has started the time, the same as it started before in the Bible, but this time is going to start with earthquakes, with storms, with the climates. With the climates that are going to change. When you don't think it's going to change, it will change. It's going to become cold and hot, cold and hot when you don't think it's going to be.

And all the ice of the north and in the south will move. It's going to move. The ocean will go up and down, and up and down, the whole world will move. You won't comprehend. You think it will be one way and it won't be. It's going to do something else. You'll get frightened for everyone, all the Presidents, the Kings, the People, the Governors, everybody that thinks they know it all, they too are going to get scared.

For they are going to know that I am God of all the stars, and of the world, and of everything, that is, and is going to be. For I am going to scare everyone who doesn't believe in the Bible, and they are going to want, they are going to want to dig a hole to hide themselves. For of all the things that are going to happen that I tell you now, they are going to dig a hole to hide themselves.

A thousand-mile arm of glaciated land and islands reaching northward toward the tip of South America—has seen average temperatures increase by almost 5 degrees Fahrenheit in the last 50 years. As the region warms, glaciers have retreated, and floating ice shelves that may have formed many thousands of years ago have collapsed. Glaciologists ponder the possible ramifications for even larger ice formations to the south. Collapse would raise world sea levels by as much as 18 feet.

Rodolfo del Valle, director of geo science at the Argentine Antarctic Institute in Buenos Aires, knows just how dramatic climate change can be. In 1995, he and his colleagues were at their base camp on a rocky outcropping in the midst of the Larsen-A Ice Shelf, a floating ice sheet the size of Rhode Island and 500 feet thick. They used the shelf as a sort of highway, driving snow machines between geological sites on the peninsula.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Greenhouse gases are making the world even warmer than anybody had predicted, and it is almost certainly the fault of humans, a draft report from an international climate group concludes.
    The report, from the United Nations-sponsored Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), predicts that the average global temperature could be as much as 11 degrees F (6 degrees C) higher at the end of the century than it was in 1990.
    That is a bigger change than what the world has seen since the end of the last Ice Age and could lead to chaotic weather, with storms, flooding and severe droughts.
    Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide are produced by using fossil fuels such as gasoline and coal, burning forests and other activities.
    The report is the strongest word yet from the IPCC, which groups 2,500 of the world's top climate scientists. Their last report in 1995 said there was a "discernible human influence' on climate.
    The new draft strengthens the language, saying "there is now stronger evidence for a human influence" and revises upwards the estimates on how warm the Earth is going to get.
    "In 1995, we said since 1860 there had been a 0.3 to 0.6 degree C rise," one source familiar with the report, who asked not to be named, said.
    "Now it is 0.4 to 0.8 degrees C (0.7 to 1.4 degrees F). The observed change is somewhat larger."
    This is the same as given in a major report issued in January by the U.S. National Academy of Science's National Research Council (NRC).
    "That's largely because the last few years have been very warm. As the report itself says, the last decade was certainly the warmest in 1,000 years," the source said.
    In 1995, the IPCC projected a 1.0 to 3.5 C increase in average global temperature between 1990 to 2100. The new draft predicts a rise of from anywhere between 1.5 and 6 C.
    Robert Watson, the Washington, D.C.-based chairman of the IPCC, said the report, leaked to several news organizations, was only a draft and was subject to change.
    "This is the summary of a report prepared by hundreds of scientists throughout the world," Watson said in a telephone interview.
    "It is indeed still a draft document subject to change after government review."
    REPORT TO BE APPROVED IN JANUARY He said the report, which is several hundred pages long, had been prepared by "hundreds of scientists" and reviewed twice, by climate experts and by governments.
    "It has been revised, and has now been released to governments for their final review," Watson said.
    He suggested it would be subject to close scrutiny and considerable discussion.
    "There will be a meeting of all the governments of the world, plus some of the scientists that prepared the reports, in China in the middle of January for final review and approval. It will literally be a word-by-word approval."
    Since the last IPCC report was issued in 1995, many studies have shown that global warming is even more serious than had been believed, and many showed definitive links with human-produced chemicals such as carbon dioxide.
    Several reports have concluded that global temperature took a sudden upward turn at around the turn of the last century, when the Industrial Revolution reached its peak and people started pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
    The January NRC report estimated that in the last 20 years, the earth's surface temperature rose by 0.25 to 0.4 C (0.5 to 0.7 F).
    While the numbers seem small, they refer to average global temperatures. Actual variations will be much more extreme locally, and scientists say higher temperatures have already started to cause strong hurricanes, severe floods and devastating droughts.
    Ice shelves in the Antarctic have started to break off and, if the trend continues, many low-lying coastal areas could be flooded.
    A report by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that found the cycles of the Pacific El Nino current, blamed for disrupting weather worldwide, have become more frequent and progressively warmer -- just as global temperatures have risen overall on average.
    Small and subtle changes in the sun's radiation may also contribute, scientists say.

Yosef Bodansky, a researcher of the House Task Force for Counter terrorism and author of a new book on Bin Laden, told a news conference on Friday that Bin Laden has been seeking to follow up on his bombings of two U.S. embassies in east Africa one year ago. Echoing U.S. officials, Bodansky said Bin Laden was thwarted in plans to blow up the U.S. embassy and two consulates in India in last December and January. Bin Laden has biological, chemical and nuclear weapons, Bodansky said. The nuclear weapons include suitcase bombs acquired through Chechniyan rebels and received technical help from Iraq.

'The Russians believe that he has a handful [of nuclear weapons], the Saudi intelligence services are very conservative, perhaps they are friendly to the United States, believe that he has in the neighborhood of 20,' Bodansky said. 'As far as the acquisition and obtaining, there's the multiple sources of that, dealing with the actual purchase of suitcase bombs. His collection of individuals knowledgeable in activating the bombs and he is looking for and recruiting former Soviet special forces in learning how to operate the bombs behind enemy lines.'..."
